Program Objectives
Small retail businesses have been disrupted by e-commerce and the COVID-19 crisis posed additional challenges. Henceforth, retail businesses need to consider adopting e-commerce (i.e. digitalisation) not only for online shopping, but also materials management – order fulfilment, supply chain and logistics operations.
The major challenge and barrier many SME business faced is developing a system solution closely aligned to its business model, yet affordable and user friendly.
Learning Outcome
- Understand the e-commerce model – how the online shopping platform operates, including the data analytics used for tracking sales/inventory turnover and materials management.
- Identify the opportunities digitalisation with analytics offer to improve business operations – sales/inventory turnover, order fulfilment, supply chain and logistics management.
- Learn the process of designing a system solution – identify the operation’s need for digital solutions, to transform and improve the business model.
Program Outline:
- Definition of the e-commerce model
- A marketplace to connect many merchants to many mass market customers (both small business and consumer) to facilitate transactions quickly and seamlessly.
- A platform (system) solution to facilitate the operations – order fulfilment, supply chain and logistics management.
- Understand the future retail operation needs, and identify the requirements for transformation
- Identify the operation processes required – POS, order fulfilment, sales/inventory turnover, logistics operations including shipment delivery and inventory management with replenishment.
- Data analytics
- Data requirements – sales/inventory turnover (including customer profile), supply chain (i.e. supplier profile, lead-time for replenishment including shipment), logistics (i.e. delivery to customers, shipment from suppliers).
- Identify the opportunities and requirements for transformation
- Identify the system requirements for the operation processes
- Explore for an appropriate digital solution, e.g. leveraging an e-commerce platform solution, use a cloud-based solution like MS Dynamics.

Trainer’s Profile
Peter is an experienced creative strategist focused on MBCI (Market, Business & Competitive Intelligence) for over 20 years, spanning across industries such as electronics, automotive, telecommunication, oil & gas industries. With his immense industry experience, he envisions the market potential for IoT and Big Data applications to proliferate across many industries beyond 2020.
Peter holds a MBA from Indiana University, and is an Adjunct lecturer at Singapore Institute of Technology, having developed the Organization & Management module and introducing the McKinsey 7-S concept as an analytical tool. He was a mentor for Lithan Academy’s Technopreneruship program and the Edupreneur start-up boot-camp. He has also conducted seminar workshops for ASEAN delegates on the future trends for IoT applications that impact the economies.
Currently Peter is an adjunct lecturer at Temasek Polytechnic with the School of Business, conducting lessons for modules such as Supply Chain Management & Technology, Business Analytics, Purchasing & Materials Management.
Peter has attained an Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment from the Singapore Workforce Development Agency.
